From time to time we update our hostnames (hostname.eoreality.net) for different services, and you may not be able to connect to them temporarily even though that service is online. This is because your DNS cache has not updated to connect to the hostname that's pointing to a new IP address. Windows operating systems are very sluggish in handling DNS cache (which is just a way of how the system remembers which hostname points to which IP address, for example test.eoreality.net points to 123.123.123.123). Windows sometimes does not clear check for cache updates for up to seven days!
So to get around that we will just clear the cache which will force the operating system to check for the most up-to-date hostname and cache that. This solution is most useful for Ventrilo servers since they get updated from time to time. To do this follow the steps listed below.
1) Click Start
2) Click Run
3) Type cmd
4) Type ipconfig /flushdns (make sure you remember the space between the ipconfig and /flushdns - it is important)
5) Type ipconfig /release
6) Type ipconfig /renew
7) Reboot your computer and modem/router
Note: Windows Vista users can just type cmd when they hit the Start menu, but they MUST start cmd as Administrator by right clicking on the application and clicking run as 'Administrator'.
This should clear your cache and the hostname should work for you now.
